Some Things Here and There

Hi all!

I just wanted to do a post about a few things that I have picked up over the past few days.  Ever since school got out for summer break, I’ve been doing quite a bit of shopping and really enjoyed it.

First, I stopped by Marshalls and got an adorable pair of black and white oxfords for $20:

Then I went to the Nordstrom Rack and picked up this gorgeous Juicy Couture Gold Statement Necklace.  I’ve noticed that gold chain statement necklaces (that’s a mouthful!) have come back in a huge way and I liked this one especially because it has hearts that help form the chain and I thought that was a really cute twist to the trend.  Also, this was around $30 which feels like an awesome deal considering it’s from Juicy and the one I wanted from Express was $27.

I also couldn’t resist this pleather Betsey Johnson Bow Crossbody Bag!  It was also right around $30 and I absolutely adore it!

Last, but certainly not least, I finally picked up a powder that I mentioned in a couple posts back.  I have completely finished all my powders (I didn’t have many to start off with) and was so excited to get to pick up a new makeup product.  I decided to go with the M.A.C. Mineralize Skinginish Natural in Light Plus because I’ve heard great things about it and have decided to give M.A.C. another go and let me tell you, I am not disappointed at all!  I did take pictures of it when I got it but somehow I’ve lost them but here is a picture of it perfectly fitting in with all my other makeup on a makeshift vanity I’ve made out in my boyfriend’s apartment:

I’ve been loving all the pieces I’ve picked up and feel like they were the perfect pieces to make me feel summer ready!

New Brush Set

Hi all!

I recently received the Sedona Lace Vortex Brush Set as a gift from my boyfriend.  I’ve been using them for a couple days now but I feel like I need a couple weeks before I can really review the product.  Here is a link to the set.

So far I’m really loving them and have found that these brushes fill the “void” of really any basic brush set.

I got the set with the zippered brush belt which is so so convenient for traveling and can fit so many brushes!  As you can see in the picture below you can fit well over double the amount of brushes the set comes with!

Here is a brief description of the brush set:

The Vortex Collection exclusively designed by Renelyn Monteloyola of Makeup by Ren Ren for Sedona Lace. This pro line of brushes takes makeup application and technique to the next level. All of the brushes are multi-purpose and versatile.

I’ve especially been loving the tulip contour face brush for setting my powder because it can get into the “nooks and crannies” of my face and makes it so easy to set my undereye concealer!

xoxo.

My Progress So Far

I’ve been on this “makeup ban” for almost 5 complete months now so I thought it was about time for a quick review and recap over what has happened/changed since I started this project on January 1st.

1. I failed miserably with the no clothing ban.

I’ve bought a trench, a purse, 2 dress shirts, 4 dresses, a cardigan, a skirt, and a pair of ballet flats.  Obviously, I had to put a stop to the ban right away because there was no way I could justify all of that.

2. I’ve done pretty well on the makeup front.  I’ve only bought products that I really had no alternative to- for example I used up all of my concealer and finally took the plunge and bought the bobbi brown corrector and concealer (okay, that’s two things) and I love it.

3. However, I was gifted makeup by my boyfriend so that made it loads easier for me.  To be fair though, it was a foundation and an eyelash curler (does that count as makeup?).

4. I’ve been able to buy cosmetic “non-makeup” items like the MAC cosmetics Studio Fix+ Spray and Brush Cleanser, nailpolish, and hair accessories.

Overall, I still think I’m doing a great job and I’ve definitely noticed that I’m not as makeup-obsessed as before.  I really have come to appreciate what I already have so much more and have found ways to use products in different ways.  I feel better off financially and I feel less guilty for doing other things like eating out, etc.

Anywho, I wanted to keep this short and simple.  Thanks so much for reading!

She’s back…

Hello detoxers!!!

I know I haven’t posted in so long and while I could sit here and write to you about all my excuses (finals, stress, etc.), I’m just going to skip that part and say I’m sorry that I haven’t updated my blog in a LONG time, but I’m back and with a beauty loaded post.

First, I have a small Sephora haul that I got with my gift card from my birthday.

ImageSince I also completely finished all my concealers, I decided to take the plunge and buy a concealer I’ve been eying for a while- the Bobbi Brown Corrector and Creamy Concealer!

Concealer in Pale Yellow

So far, I’ve been really enjoying this and have found this to be a winning combination against dark circles!

Also, I received the Sephora Beauty Insider Birthday Gift from benefit and love it!

First off, the mascara wasn’t anything spectacular to me, but the highlighter is absolutely adorable!  I love the  the cream stick formulation and the size of it! It makes it ideal for traveling!

I also bought some nail polish that was on sale:

These are just the Sephora brand nail polishes and I haven’t tried them yet but the colors are so cute!

I also got some MAC cosmetics items (although they don’t really qualify as makeup).

MAC Brush Cleaner

I haven’t really had the chance to use the Fix + Spray yet, but I have tried the Brush cleanser and I absolutely love it, but then again this is coming from a girl who usually uses dish soap to wash her brushes.

Last, but not least, I bought a refill of Clinique’s Moisture Surge Intense.  This time I got the larger size of 2.5 oz for $49.50 versus the regular size of 1.7 oz for $37.00 which saved me about $2 an ounce (not much, but hey, every bit counts.  This is my 3rd repurchase of the product and I think that now makes it Holy Grail Staus because I honestly only use this now and have never looked back.

That is a lot of products, but I think I’m still staying true to my goals for this year because I purchased items that I absolutely did not have any alternative to or were free like the Beauty Insider Gifts.

I’m also now completely out of powder so I’ll tell you all about it when I get one!  Also, any recommendations for a great setting powder would be greatly appreciated.

XOXO,
