Jewelry Organization in a Small Space

So in my last post, I showed how my side table/dresser housed my everyday makeup on one side.  Today, I’m going to do a quick post on my lotions, fragrances, and jewelry on the other side of my table.

On the left side of my table I have my Tarte “The Starlet Limited-Edition Makeup Vanity” from their 2011 Holiday collection.  I no longer have any makeup in this and have repurposed it as my jewelry box.  It’s a truly beautiful box.  It has a top compartment that flips open and two drawers.  It also has all mirrored sides and the the mirrors are of great quality as in there isn’t any odd warping or anything like that.  For a better look at this, I have found a great youtube review on this palette which you can see by clicking here.

ImageAs you can see, I keep my Lavanila “vanilla passion fruit” perfume and body butter; my bath & body works “Paris Amour” lotion, body spray, and hand sanitizer; and my Clinique “dramatically different moisturizing lotion” and “moisture surge intense”.

Now on to the jewelry organization.  First off, I didn’t bring that much jewelry to college because a) I don’t wear that much to begin with and b) If anything was stolen, I wouldn’t be too heart broken.  Because of this I am able to keep most of my jewelry in one place (except for a few long necklaces that I keep on a 3m command hook to keep from tangling).

Also, if you’re wondering what the zebra print in the mirror is, that is my bed! 🙂

How do you store your jewelry?

Saving Face

Allright here is part 2 of my series: Foundations, face powders, and bb creams/tinted moisturizers.  I pretty much wear one of these or a combination of these every day.  I have two bb creams, two liquid foundations, one cream foundation, and one finishing powder.  That’s a good amount to me as I don’t feel like I have a suplus per se, as I’m confident I’ll finish all of these by the end of the year.  If I use one of these consistently everyday, it takes me about 2-3 months to finish the product.  Currently I’m using my Dr. Jart+ black label bb cream and sometimes I settle it with a little help from MUFE’s HD powder.  I’m going to do the same format as I did for lippies and go through with what I have and do a little quick review/explanation on them.  I hope you enjoy!

1. BB cream

Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB cream– A great bb cream for dry, acne prone skin that is moisturizing and has a decent amount of coverage.  (See my in-depth review here)

Missha M Perfect Cover BB cream in No. 23– This is my 2nd bottle of which I have not used that I found tucked away at home over last Thanksgiving.  I first used this in the summer of 2011 and I did enjoy it.  It has a light/medium coverage and it is THICK, a little goes a long way (blend, blend, blend!).

2. Liquid Foundations

Make Up For Ever HD Foundation in #123– It’s honestly too dark for my skin tone but I use this in the summer when I become tanner.  The product feels silky and lightweight but has amazing coverage!  This makes my skin beautiful in photographs, but for $40+ I’m never going to repurchase this.

Revlon ColorStay in 180-I have mixed feelings about this product.  To me, it goes on way too thick and looks cakey.  It does have amazing coverage but I don’t like masking my face and it feels like it clogs my pores.

3. Cream Foundation

Chanel Vitalumière Aqua in 32– I have been loving this! I’m in shade 32 beige rose. It’s quite hydrating and gives me easy, mess-free, on-the-go, coverage. I only need a light coverage and this fits the bill.

4. Face Powder

Make Up For Ever HD Powder– It’s a good, solid finishing powder.  It doesn’t dry out my dry skin even in the winter and goes on smoothly but sometimes it makes my skin a bit lighter than is natural.

What are your favorite face products?

Should I?

So I have had a pretty busy first week of school and it’s nice to finally sit down and have time to write type my thoughts out.  I’m taking 4 core courses this semester (3 is full time) and my schedule is pretty hectic.  Still, I’m still pretty lucky because my earliest class is at 10 AM (even that is a just a bit too early for me).  I’m a complete night owl and I’m up til at least 2 AM even if I woke up at 5 AM on the same day so having later classes works for me because I can actually concentrate in class.

Here’s a glimpse of my schedule:

So between classes, eating, sleeping, and “socializing”, I’ll be stretched thin.  Nonetheless this blog is still one of my priorities, but I’m going to need a little help coming up with topics.  I would truly, truly appreciate any requests or questions or any and all ideas.

Here are some ideas I have right now:

  • Makeup Collection
  • Makeup/Vanity Storage
  • Outfit of the Days?

and here are some things that I definitely plan to do soon:

  • First Month Recap
  • Hairdo Extensions Review

What should I do? Please help me!

Everyday Makeup For Class

Now that classes have resumed (oh, winter holiday why’d you have to go so soon?), I’m back to my morning routine of pressing the snooze button 7 times in a row before finally waking up, splashing some water on my face, brushing my teeth, quickly putting makeup on while drinking coffee, eating yogurt, and then rushing out the door.  Needless to say, I spend very little time putting on makeup for class.  Still, I try to look decent (allright, decently hygienic) so that I don’t scare people away.

Here are the few products that I have found that are easy to put on and doesn’t smudge everywhere!

1. Dr. Jart+Black Label Detox BB Cream

(See my review here)

2. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Perversion

The blackest black pencil eyeliner with minimal smudging ( I would be lying if I said it absolutely doesn’t budge all day, still it comes pretty close to perfection)

3. Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum

Makes my lips smooth and adds color at the same time!

That’s all folks!  Of course, when I do have a bit more time I’d add a bit of loose powder, some eyeshadow, maybe mascara, and blush.

What do you use (or don’t use) when your in a rush?

Butter me up!

Revlon lip butters!
I know I’m probably late to the hype, and I can’t believe I haven’t talked about these before but I love revlon lip butters!  I have dry skin and my lips are usually chapped and to be honest, they look gross.  I have used so many lip balms/conditioners/butters and this product is by far my favorite.   The colors they offer are lovely and they leave my lips looking glossy and SMOOTH!  In fact not only do they look smoother, my lips have actually improved and have become softer overall!  Needless to say I bought a bunch last year so I probably don’t need any more for the rest of the year.
Right now, I’ve been using “fig jam” which is a really pretty fall/winter color.  It’s a dark burgundy that is much more subtle than I thought it would be.
My favorite color of all time is “sugar plum” and I’ve already been through 2 tubes of it!Revlon-Colorburst-Lip-Butter_Sugar-Plum
Of course the cons to the product is that it fades fast so I have to reapply often and there isn’t much product in each tube.  They’re a bit pricy as they go from about 7-10 dollars depending on where and when you buy it.
Have you tried revlon lip butters, if so what do you think of them?

Back to College Organization

The title of this post is a bit misleading because I can honestly say I’m not a particularly organized person.  I was the kid in class who often forgot my homework at home or in my locker (honest!). Growing up with  a sister and THREE brothers, I still managed to have one of the messiest rooms in the house!  It was scary, I would have dirty laundry all over the ground and papers everywhere (don’t even get me started on makeup).  Still, I didn’t change my ways because even with all my missing assignments, my grades were decent enough to get me to a “top 50” university.
However, once I actually started college, I realized how important it is to be and stay organized.  Although I’m 18 now, I’m actually a junior in college since I graduated high school when I was 16 (but really, I’m not a smart person, in fact I feel pretty stupid compared to many, many people). Anyway, after I started college, I noticed very quickly how easy it was to get behind in class.  At first, I loved how classes met only a couple times a week, then I soon realized that just because my class wasn’t meeting for the other days of the week, doesn’t give me the excuse to NOT be responsible for retaining the material and plan for the next meeting.  Organizing all my papers and notes and assignment due dates became crucial to my “success” (or rather, survival) in college.  Also it is a huge stress reliever to know where all my papers are!
Now, I’m still definitely not a super organized person or OCD in any manner, but I can say I’m now an avid planner user, my laundry has found it’s place in a hamper, and my bed is more often made than not.
Here are a few items that I use to keep me on top of my life:
1. Cascading file/ Any file system in general
I use Manila folders to store important documents and label them accordingly (work, medical documents, bank statements, taxes) then I put them away in a file organizer that is portable.  I also use another one to keep important papers/tests from past semesters.
2. A planner!
This has seriously saved my tush! I don’t like to use a pocket sized one nor the huge 8 1/2 x 11 inch one.  I write too big for the small ones and the large planner is too bulky to use in most lecture halls.  Instead I use a 7 x 9 Payne Publisher Student Assignment Planner and it’s the perfect size for me.  This planner has been my favorite format so far.  It is an assignment planner that has a daily section where you can write the subject, the assignment, the due date, and check it off when you’re done! I love it because I can see exactly which assignments I should work on for that day.
3. A subject divided notebook.
I dislike carrying binders because they’re a bit too bulky, especially when I have classes back to back.  Also, it’s a hassle to use to put papers in during class and I hate having to carry a hole puncher just to use it.  So for notes, I use one notebook for all my classes that has built in dividers that makes it easy for me to organize all my notes and keep them in one place.
4. Mead trapper keeper folders
These folders are made out of plastic which doesn’t break easily and can last me semester after semester.  They come with a clear plastic cover on the front which allows me to put the class syllabus on the front which serves as my folder label and keeps all my important papers for the class in one convenient place where it doesn’t mingle with the other papers.  Inside I put all my handouts or assignments that are due.  Also, they come in a variety colors to make it easier to remember which folders I need for the day.
What do you use or do to stay organized?

Spring Trends

I’m not a fashionista, nor do I claim to be, but still I get a bit excited to see what people will be wearing for the new season so I decided to look at Glamour’s “Spring 2013’s Most Wearable Fashion Trends” (http://www.glamour.com/fashion/2012/09/spring-2013-most-wearable-fashion-trends?slide=2#slide=1) Some trends are adorable, while others are odd.  I’m going to do a quick run down the list and talk about these “trends”.

1. Bermuda Shorts

I can see some girls rocking this look, but to me it’s a bit too vacationy and not at all feminine or appropriate for everyday wear.

2. Black and White

When is black and white not in?  It’s possibly the most wearable color combination- it’s appropriate from the office to a nightclub.  Not seeing this so much as a trend, but still a do!

3. Peekaboo Pieces

Been seeing this trend a lot this fall and I’m loving it!  It’s perfect for the warmer days in Spring!

4. Statement Sunglasses

Haha.  Okay not this crazy, but still statement sunglasses are fun and playful and definitely Spring!

5. Bold Stripes

Of course!  There’s not much to say, but stripes are a fun and simple way to spruce up any outfit!

6. Luxe Leather

I like how faux leather can “toughen” up a look, but not sure if it’s for everyone or “springy”

7. Beautiful Beading

Really, really pretty and adds a touch of glamour.  I don’t know if I’m into it, but I can definitely see others rocking this trend.

8. Short Suits

Um… I don’t like it at all.  I think it looks odd and not appropriate for work or anything really for that matter.

9. Sporty Dresses

sweater dress

Cute and casual. I’m loving it.

10. Flats and Low-heels

Yes and no.  I love flats, but I don’t know how I feel about low heels.  I find wedges to be a cuter option over low heels.  That being said, I’m way more into the sneaker wedge trend this season!

For me, I’ll be rocking more of a sporty/casual look this season, without buying new clothes!  I’m up for the challenge!

What trends are you excited for this season?
