Jewelry Organization in a Small Space

So in my last post, I showed how my side table/dresser housed my everyday makeup on one side.  Today, I’m going to do a quick post on my lotions, fragrances, and jewelry on the other side of my table.

Image

On the left side of my table I have my Tarte “The Starlet Limited-Edition Makeup Vanity” from their 2011 Holiday collection.  I no longer have any makeup in this and have repurposed it as my jewelry box.  It’s a truly beautiful box.  It has a top compartment that flips open and two drawers.  It also has all mirrored sides and the the mirrors are of great quality as in there isn’t any odd warping or anything like that.  For a better look at this, I have found a great youtube review on this palette which you can see by clicking here.

ImageAs you can see, I keep my Lavanila “vanilla passion fruit” perfume and body butter; my bath & body works “Paris Amour” lotion, body spray, and hand sanitizer; and my Clinique “dramatically different moisturizing lotion” and “moisture surge intense”.

Image

Now on to the jewelry organization.  First off, I didn’t bring that much jewelry to college because a) I don’t wear that much to begin with and b) If anything was stolen, I wouldn’t be too heart broken.  Because of this I am able to keep most of my jewelry in one place (except for a few long necklaces that I keep on a 3m command hook to keep from tangling).

Also, if you’re wondering what the zebra print in the mirror is, that is my bed! 🙂

Give me some Lip! (Warning: Pic Heavy)

So to start off my “makeup collection” series, I thought I would start with lippies!  The reason I’m breaking up my makeup collection into “parts” is so that I can go into depth over what I have and kinda explain each product.  So without further ado here are all the lip products that I own.

1. Revlon Lip Butters (of course!)

Image

Candy Apple– A bright wearable red, that’s not in your face!  It’s buildable, glossy, and doesn’t have any glitter like some of the other shades.

Berry Smoothie– Not as bold as I thought it would be.  It’s a cool tone medium pink shade with a bit of shimmer, but it’s not gritty.

Sugar Plum– My personal favorite.  It may seem dark, but it’s a wearable, buildable perfect plum shade.  It’s uber creamy and has no glitter or shimmer which makes it the most moisturizing and balm like.

Créme Brulee– It’s a nude, but not a pretty nude.  It’s beige and not as pigmented as other colors, but it does change the shade of my lips to a pretty pale color that washes me out and makes me look sickly.

Fig Jam (Not pictured)- A pretty fall color.  It’s a subtle warm reddish-brown shade that has a hint of shimmer to it.

2. Lipsticks

So I have a total of FOUR lipsticks from four different brands and I pretty much love them all.

Image

NYX Pandora– a bold, berry, fuschia color that has a hint of shimmer to it.  One of my first lipsticks that I constantly go to when I want a more dramatic look.

Image

Chanel Vendòme- A gorgeous, muted red (still  bold though) that matches my skin perfectly.

M.A.C. Hue- A nudish pink shade with a bit of a glossy finish.  The texture is fine and smooth, but this shade does not work on me at all (usually nudes don’t).

Victoria’s Secret Vixen- A dark plum shade that glides on smoothly that is both moisturizing and long-lasting!

3. Lipgloss!

Okay, I don’t really like lipgloss. It’s just a bit too sticky for me, but I’ll use it to help my lips look smoother from time to time.  I have two lipglosses.

M.A.C. Oyster Girl–  a pearly pink, which again is too nude for me.  Nice texture and smooth application though.

Buxom Samantha– A plumping lip gloss that is pretty nude but one that I actually like.  I don’t use it often but I put it on top of red lipstick to make my lips look, well..glossy.

4. Lip liner/pencils

Chanel Rouge Profond 57- This stuff is amazing! I can’t believe I didn’t know the power of a lip liner before! Honestly, I could wear this on its own with maybe a clear gloss over it for all day wear!  The perfect shade of red.

Nars Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in New Lover- I got this deluxe sample size as part of a Sephora 500 pt. reward and I love this “all-in-one” product.  It’s between a lip liner, a lip stick, and a lip gloss.  It’s a pretty, shiny, glossy, light pink with a golden sheen.

So that’s about it :).  Have you tried any of these, if so, what do you think?

Material Diet

I feel as though my “no spending for a year” is pretty similar to a diet- instead of food, it’s makeup and clothes!  Now, this is pretty tough, I have definitely cut my spending by a lot (more than half) since I started and my perspective has slowly changed as well.

I used to watch youtube “my makeup collection” videos and I used to be extremely jealous of all the makeup other people had.  Now, I’m not really jealous at all.  Sometimes too much is simply too much.  After seeing someone, I won’t name who, who had a whole cabinet devoted solely to lip products, I was really happy I didn’t have that much.  There were about 9 drawers full of lipstick, lipgloss, and lip treatments (and this was after she gave away 70% of her stuff).   Needless to say, maybe I am a bit jealous of her nicer items, but overall it just seemed a bit bizarre to have that many lip products.  I’m lucky if I get through 4-5 tubes a YEAR.  Compared to some, I have a reasonable amount, and by reasonable I mean ONE traincase of makeup, not completely filled up.  Still, that is too much to me because I hate throwing away makeup that I haven’t really used (that expired) because I was busy using all my other products.  By the end of this year my goal is to have 2-5 items of any “type” of product, i.e. foundation, powder, eyeshadow palettes, lip stick, lip gloss, or blush.

IMG_0727
Pretty much all my makeup (a few things are back in my bf’s apartment in Boston)

So I’ll be starting a “series” ( I don’t know what to call it) of what I do have, so yes, it is my own “makeup collection”.

However, on the clothes aspect of things, I really don’t have a lot, but still I don’t want to buy random stuff that I’ll only wear for a season just because I found it on sale (I want to find something on sale that is timeless :))  So I was thinking like a diet, maybe I can do one “cheat day” a month.  Obviously, I can’t just buy everything on that day (that would ruin the point of my project) but I can buy ONE item that cannot exceed in price over $50 that I can justify by using it for AT LEAST two years.  I feel by letting myself have one cheat item a month I will be less tempted to buy things and it can be a little “reward” for sticking to my plan.

What do you think?  Will this do more harm than good?

Everyday Makeup For Class

Now that classes have resumed (oh, winter holiday why’d you have to go so soon?), I’m back to my morning routine of pressing the snooze button 7 times in a row before finally waking up, splashing some water on my face, brushing my teeth, quickly putting makeup on while drinking coffee, eating yogurt, and then rushing out the door.  Needless to say, I spend very little time putting on makeup for class.  Still, I try to look decent (allright, decently hygienic) so that I don’t scare people away.

Here are the few products that I have found that are easy to put on and doesn’t smudge everywhere!

1. Dr. Jart+Black Label Detox BB Cream

(See my review here)

2. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Perversion

The blackest black pencil eyeliner with minimal smudging ( I would be lying if I said it absolutely doesn’t budge all day, still it comes pretty close to perfection)

3. Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum

revlon

Makes my lips smooth and adds color at the same time!

That’s all folks!  Of course, when I do have a bit more time I’d add a bit of loose powder, some eyeshadow, maybe mascara, and blush.

What do you use (or don’t use) when your in a rush?

Butter me up!

Revlon lip butters!
 Image
I know I’m probably late to the hype, and I can’t believe I haven’t talked about these before but I love revlon lip butters!  I have dry skin and my lips are usually chapped and to be honest, they look gross.  I have used so many lip balms/conditioners/butters and this product is by far my favorite.   The colors they offer are lovely and they leave my lips looking glossy and SMOOTH!  In fact not only do they look smoother, my lips have actually improved and have become softer overall!  Needless to say I bought a bunch last year so I probably don’t need any more for the rest of the year.
revlon-colorburst-lip-butter
Right now, I’ve been using “fig jam” which is a really pretty fall/winter color.  It’s a dark burgundy that is much more subtle than I thought it would be.
Image
My favorite color of all time is “sugar plum” and I’ve already been through 2 tubes of it!Revlon-Colorburst-Lip-Butter_Sugar-Plum
Of course the cons to the product is that it fades fast so I have to reapply often and there isn’t much product in each tube.  They’re a bit pricy as they go from about 7-10 dollars depending on where and when you buy it.
Have you tried revlon lip butters, if so what do you think of them?

Back to College Organization

The title of this post is a bit misleading because I can honestly say I’m not a particularly organized person.  I was the kid in class who often forgot my homework at home or in my locker (honest!). Growing up with  a sister and THREE brothers, I still managed to have one of the messiest rooms in the house!  It was scary, I would have dirty laundry all over the ground and papers everywhere (don’t even get me started on makeup).  Still, I didn’t change my ways because even with all my missing assignments, my grades were decent enough to get me to a “top 50” university.
Image
However, once I actually started college, I realized how important it is to be and stay organized.  Although I’m 18 now, I’m actually a junior in college since I graduated high school when I was 16 (but really, I’m not a smart person, in fact I feel pretty stupid compared to many, many people). Anyway, after I started college, I noticed very quickly how easy it was to get behind in class.  At first, I loved how classes met only a couple times a week, then I soon realized that just because my class wasn’t meeting for the other days of the week, doesn’t give me the excuse to NOT be responsible for retaining the material and plan for the next meeting.  Organizing all my papers and notes and assignment due dates became crucial to my “success” (or rather, survival) in college.  Also it is a huge stress reliever to know where all my papers are!
Now, I’m still definitely not a super organized person or OCD in any manner, but I can say I’m now an avid planner user, my laundry has found it’s place in a hamper, and my bed is more often made than not.
Here are a few items that I use to keep me on top of my life:
1. Cascading file/ Any file system in general
Image
I use Manila folders to store important documents and label them accordingly (work, medical documents, bank statements, taxes) then I put them away in a file organizer that is portable.  I also use another one to keep important papers/tests from past semesters.
2. A planner!
Image
This has seriously saved my tush! I don’t like to use a pocket sized one nor the huge 8 1/2 x 11 inch one.  I write too big for the small ones and the large planner is too bulky to use in most lecture halls.  Instead I use a 7 x 9 Payne Publisher Student Assignment Planner and it’s the perfect size for me.  This planner has been my favorite format so far.  It is an assignment planner that has a daily section where you can write the subject, the assignment, the due date, and check it off when you’re done! I love it because I can see exactly which assignments I should work on for that day.
Image
3. A subject divided notebook.
410cFxTE88L._SL500_AA300_
I dislike carrying binders because they’re a bit too bulky, especially when I have classes back to back.  Also, it’s a hassle to use to put papers in during class and I hate having to carry a hole puncher just to use it.  So for notes, I use one notebook for all my classes that has built in dividers that makes it easy for me to organize all my notes and keep them in one place.
4. Mead trapper keeper folders
6689522107p
These folders are made out of plastic which doesn’t break easily and can last me semester after semester.  They come with a clear plastic cover on the front which allows me to put the class syllabus on the front which serves as my folder label and keeps all my important papers for the class in one convenient place where it doesn’t mingle with the other papers.  Inside I put all my handouts or assignments that are due.  Also, they come in a variety colors to make it easier to remember which folders I need for the day.
What do you use or do to stay organized?
